On December 18, 2025, the Faculty of Fine Arts, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, continued its academic service mission to create shared value with the community by organizing a community product development project to promote sales in the communities surrounding Samsen Road, Bangkok. The project involved a workshop on "Producing Souvenirs from Velvet Wire" at the Tapi Building, Ban Yuan Samsen Community, Wachirapayaban Subdistrict, Dusit District, Bangkok. Miss Nawaporn Srisarankullawong, from the Visual Communication Design program, served as the instructor, imparting knowledge in design and product creation to the local community.

The project's inception stemmed not solely from a university-determined activity, but from an assessment of the community's needs and potential. It was found that the community possessed a background in handicrafts and the potential to produce community products, but faced limitations in design, product development, value creation, and connecting products with market demand. The Faculty of Fine Arts therefore applied its expertise in art and design to develop these skills, involving the community in the learning process and hands-on product creation from concept development and material selection to the production of souvenirs with potential for further development.

This learning process transformed academic knowledge from the university into practical skills that the community could apply. Participants were able to design and produce velvet wire souvenirs independently. The design principles can be applied to other community products to increase diversity, attractiveness, and value, promoting non-formal learning and lifelong skills development (SDG 4: Quality Education). This is especially true in creating opportunities for communities to access vocational knowledge and skills from universities through hands-on learning.

The key goal of product development is not limited to creating finished products from the training, but rather to empowering communities to leverage this knowledge to develop marketable products. These can be sold at festivals, trade shows, community events, and online, leading to employment opportunities and supplementary income, aligning with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth in the dimensions of promoting vocational skills, supporting the grassroots economy, and empowering small-scale producers to create value from their knowledge and creativity.

If project monitoring confirms that participants successfully sell their products and generate income, this initiative can further connect with SDG 1: No Poverty in the dimension of creating economic opportunities and increasing household income. However, reflecting this outcome requires empirical data, such as the number of people who have used the knowledge to start a business, the value of product sales, or the increase in income after participating in the project, to clearly demonstrate the economic changes that have occurred in the community.

The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts also prioritizes the continuity of development, monitoring progress and providing consultation to the community on product design, packaging, and marketing strategies. It also fosters collaboration between faculty, students, and local residents. This process reflects the university's partnership with the community to transform academic knowledge into beneficial local development and supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, in the dimension of building collaboration to drive sustainable development.

This community product development project therefore reflects Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University's role in moving beyond simply "knowledge transfer" to leveraging its expertise in art and design to solve local challenges, with the community at the center of the development process. Building practical skills and continuously monitoring and improving products are crucial foundations that will help the cultural capital, creativity, and potential of community members develop into sustainable economic opportunities and urban community strength.
